Dots ‘n’ Lines

Discover Music with Dots and Lines: A Creative Journey

Music is all around us, made up of a wide variety of sounds. Some sounds are high; others are low. Some are big, while others are small. But did you know that music can also become a visual art? By using dots and lines, we can draw the sounds we hear and create our own musical masterpieces!

In this programme, LittleCr3atures® invites children to explore the magic of music by using dots and lines to represent different sounds. Through fun and engaging activities, children will learn how sounds can transform into music through elements like pitch (high or low) and dynamics (loud or soft).

Programme Objectives:

  1. Introduction to Sounds: Help children discover a world of sounds and understand their different qualities.
  2. How Sounds Become Music: Teach children the basics of music-making, focusing on pitch and dynamics.
  3. Exploring Graphic Notation: Introduce children to a post-modernist approach to music using graphic notation — a creative method where sounds are represented visually through shapes, dots, and lines.
  4. Creating Music through Art: Encourage children to compose their own music using graphic notation, fostering creativity and self-expression.

Our Musical Journey:

We will also explore the fascinating work of musical innovators who developed these unique methods of music-making. We’ll look into pioneers of graphic notation, as well as those who experimented with free improvisation and unstructured music. By learning about these visionaries, children will see how limitless music can truly be!
